Dear Care and Feeding,

My sister “Renata” is getting married in the spring. I bake cakes professionally, and she and our parents are expecting me to make her wedding cake free of charge. But the cake Renata wants is one that typically runs just over $1,000. I can’t afford to simply give it away. I told them I would be willing to charge $450 for it and have it be my wedding gift to her.
