NEW YORK (WABC) -- Investigators are seeking information on the person who sent a mysterious white powder to a New York City Board of Elections facility on Friday afternoon, sparking panic.

NYPD, FDNY and other emergency units responded to 450 W. 33rd Street's eighth floor, where workers were counting mail-in ballots.

The discovery of the envelope of white powder prompted a massive police response that included the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit (ESU) and HAZMAT workers who worked to secure the area.

Authorities say that six people were exposed to the powder but refused medical attention.

No word yet on whether the substance was toxic, but fortunately, no one was hurt.
