Disgraced footballer Adam Johnson has faced a fresh financial blow after he was forced to downsize his home following a dispute with HMRC. ‌

The 38-year-old is still exiled from the game after being convicted of sexual activity with a 15-year-old and child grooming , for which he was jailed for six years. ‌

He was also found guilty of another offence of sexual activity with a child and not guilty of a third. He served half of his sentence before being released on licence in March 2019. ‌

Johnson had played for Manchester City, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, and earned £600,000 a week at the height of his career. He previously lived in a £1.75 million mansion in County Durham, but sold it following the dispute.
