SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- After an 18-year professional hockey career, goaltender Michael Leighton was inducted into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame earlier this year.
Leighton's journey was anything but ordinary, from breaking AHL records to nearly winning it all on hockey's biggest stage.
"Going from the AHL, back to the NHL, back to the AHL, it was quite a roller coaster of a career," Leighton told NewsChannel 9. "Obviously, [I] had a lot of fun in the AHL, had great success, and met a lot of great people."
Leighton holds the AHL record for most shutouts with 50, breaking the mark of 45 previously set by NHL Hall of Famer Johnny Bower.
Bower called him up afterward to congratulate him.
