SALINA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)-- A new community center in Salina now stands as a tribute to Lt. Michael Hoosock and Officer Michael Jensen, who were killed by a gunman in April last year.

The center, built on the site of a former roller rink, serves as a memorial to the two men and a symbol of hope for the community. The Town of Salina had plans to develop the area into a walkable block with shops and homes, but after the tragedy, the idea of a community center to honor the fallen officers took shape.

"It devastated the community," Paul Jensen, Michael's father, said. "It has devastated our families very much."

The Town of Salina, Paul said, came to the Jensen family about honoring who Paul calls "the two Michaels" through the center.
