The husband of a Maryland woman with a documented history of sensitivity to opioids is suing WellSpan Health for ignoring that history and placing her on medication that ended up killing her, a federal lawsuit claims.
April Knott, 63, of Sabillasville, Maryland, suffered an opioid overdose and died November 14, 2023 — a week after she had been admitted to WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital for rehab.
Her husband and administrator of her estate, Christopher Knott, is now suing the doctor who prescribed her the opioids, Stanton Sollenberger, as well as the hospital, WellSpan Health and WellSpan Medical Group under negligence claims.
He’s also bringing claims under the wrongful death act and survival act against the defendants. He’s asking the court to grant him unspecified damages.
