Trade Minister Don Farrell has confirmed that the Albanese government has been actively seeking a critical minerals agreement with the United States.
It comes ahead of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s meeting with President Donald Trump on October 20.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Albanese government has explored the creation of a $1.2 billion Critical Minerals Strategic Reserve ahead of the meeting.
The plan included measures such as price floors, government loans and guarantees, and offtake agreements.
When asked about the report, Mr Farrell reiterated the government’s position without confirming the reserve itself.
