EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — As the federal government shutdown continued for an 11th day on Saturday, Oct. 11, local organizations and businesses have stepped up to provide assistance to the thousands of federal workers across the Borderland.

Bodega Loya, a farmer’s market located in Socorro, is currently offering a 20% discount on all their fresh produce to impacted federal workers and military servicemembers.

“When people don't get paid, it's difficult for them to buy groceries and anything related to the household to feed their kids. So we decided to at least try to give them a small discount,” said Marty Loya, co-owner of Bodega Loya.

Ralph Loya, Marty’s husband and co-owner of Bodega Loya, said that this is part of a small effort to pay back their large military clientele.
