It’s the battle of underdogs, unaffordable housing and 1977 expansion teams.

The Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners faced off in the 2022 wild-card series as young, fun teams that looked set to be contenders for seasons to come. It took a few bumpy years for both teams to get back on track, but they will meet again with a World Series berth on the line after the Mariners survived a 15-inning marathon in Game 5 against the Detroit Tigers that stretched into Saturday morning.

If Jays fans are getting antsy for World Series baseball after 32 years, Seattleites are starved. The Mariners have never been to the Series and haven’t played in the American League championship series since 2001 despite the presence of superstars Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, Ichiro Suzuki and Félix Hernandez.
