AUBURN — Ahead of his Auburn football jersey retirement ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 11, Cam Newton shared his biggest goal when came to the Plains. He provided a message for the program's future in the process.

"I wanted to be better than Bo Jackson ," Newton said. "Simple, point blank, period. I wanted to be better than Bo. I knew how much respect that Bo Jackson garnered. I knew how much respect that Bo Jackson had while he was here, but there was something different that my challenge was.

"Did he win the Heisman? Yeah, he won the Heisman. Did he win football games? Yeah, he won football games. He didn't win a national championship."
