A woman was treated for smoke inhalation and 16 adults and five children were displaced after a fire Saturday in an apartment building in Banksville.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said the fire was reported at 10:50 a.m. at a building in the 400 block of Mapleview Drive.

Public Safety said in a news release that the fire is believed to have started in the bedroom of an apartment, resulting in heavy smoke throughout the building. Firefighters rescued a woman and her cat from the affected unit.

Pittsburgh EMS transported the woman to a hospital. Medics attempted to resuscitate the cat but were unsuccessful.

The American Red Cross was providing temporary housing assistance and housing arrangements for the 21 people displaced by the fire.
