Based on data collected from 2018-2022, a recent study of 47 states said that New Mexico's emergency medical services average response time was about twice as long as that of Rhode Island, which had the fastest time.

New Mexico had an average EMS response time of 12.14 minutes, 15% above the national average. Rhode Island's average time was 6.21 minutes, followed closely by Massachusetts (6.34) and Nevada (6.44).

On the other end of the spectrum was California, the slowest at 17.85 minutes, then Wyoming (17.54), North Dakota (14.36) , South Dakota (13.92) and Oklahoma (13.68).

The data from the National Highway Transportation Administration was collected by first aid experts from the Fundamental First Aid EMS training school in Vancouver, Canada.
