PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- In Chicago, a federal appeals court judge ruled Saturday that the National Guard there is under federal control, but still cannot be deployed in the city.

These mark the latest developments in the President Trump's plans to deploy federal troops in some cities, including Portland and Memphis.

But Oregon is still waiting for the ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to decide whether the President can legally deploy the National Guard in Portland. Currently, troops from both Oregon and California are at guard bases.

As of right now, National Guard troops can remain under federal control, but cannot be deployed as the appeals process continues to play out on the temporary restraining order put in place by U.S. District Court Judge Karen Immergut.
