NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) -- Newport police said they have arrested a man in connection to a reported assault from Friday.

Preston Schuster, 21, has been charged with two counts of felony domestic assault, felony possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and two counts of domestic disorderly conduct.

The arrest comes after police said officers were called to Carey Street Friday afternoon and found a 21-year-old victim in need of immediate medical assistance.

The victim was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital and is in critical condition.

Schuster was brought to the ACI after not being able to post $100,000 bail, police said, and is expected to be face a judge Tuesday.
