The political party governing the Northern Territory has announced a new president, just days after the opposition welcomed a former chief minister into its own leadership role.

Darwin IT professional Nathan Land has been voted in as the next president of the Country Liberal Party (CLP), following a decision by the current NT president to step aside.

Mr Land is known in the community as a musician and served for six years as vice-president of the Darwin Game fishing club.

He has also acted as an emcee at the fishing club's iconic Barramundi Classic, an annual fishing event regularly attended by CLP politicians, including Treasurer Bill Yan .

In a statement announcing his election to the role this weekend, Mr Land said he was committed to "continuous improvement" for the CLP.
