Veronica "Vicky" Jones won the race for East Baton Rouge’s next district judge , according to unofficial results from Saturday’s municipal primary.
Jones won the seat outright and avoided a runoff election in a field of four candidates that spent months lobbying for a judgeship in the 19th Judicial District Court.
Jones will finish out the final 13 months of Wilson Fields’ term, which ends Dec. 31, 2026. Fields served as the 19th JDC’s chief judge before ascending to the First Circuit Court of Appeal in February.
Jones ran against fellow candidates Dele Adebamiji, Elzie Alford Jr. and Vernon Thomas. All four were listed as Democrats.
With all 169 precincts reporting, Jones had 51% of the vote. Thomas trailed with 18%, while Adebamiji had 16% and Alford 15%.
