NORTH CHARLESTON — A woman cooperating with police officers during a traffic stop was attacked by police dog after exiting her vehicle, a lawsuit alleges.

The attack violated North Charleston Police Department policy. The K-9’s handler, Jacob Bloomer, was suspended for a day following the incident. He was terminated years later for a number of unrelated agency infractions, records show.

The city and police department are named as defendants in the lawsuit filed on behalf of plaintiff Crystal Reedy.

Bloomer was the subject of a multitude of internal NCPD investigations for policy violations, including a prior use-of-force violation in a K-9 deployment, according to documents North Charleston police provided to The Post and Courier through Freedom of Information Act requests.
