The first snowfall is set to hit the UK within days as an Arctic blast is expected to arrive. Parts of northern England and Wales may also see some snowfall towards the end of October.

Weather maps indicate that temperatures will begin to drop starting from Saturday, October 25. Below-zero temperatures are likely in Scotland, while north-western England could see the mercury drop to single figures, The Mirror reports.

The latest maps from WXCharts show that parts of Scotland could experience around 7cm of snow before the end of October. Based on the latest predictions, snow could fall across mountainous areas in the Scottish Highlands from midday on Sunday, October 26.

The Met Office's long-range forecast from October 16 to October 25, says high pressure will dominate the UK weather.
