On Sept. 26, 1969, The Brady Bunch series premiered on ABC, introducing audiences to a wholesome blended family living in Los Angeles and the iconic catchphrase.

Created by Sherwood Schwartz of Gilligan's Island , the sitcom followed the story of a lovely lady, Carol ( Florence Henderson ), and a widowed architect named Mike Brady (Robert Reed), who merged their six children — Mike's three sons and Carol's three daughters — into one happy and hilarious unit.

While the pioneering situational comedy didn't win over critics or huge audiences during its original run, syndication turned it into a pop culture classic, spawning multiple spinoffs, reunion specials and made-for-TV movies. "Ain't that swell?"
