Fargo is closer than ever to choosing a new convention center site, and that’s a good problem to have. Ten years ago, as Charley Johnson noted, we would have been thrilled to have even one viable option. But back then, we didn’t have what we have today; billions invested in permanent flood protection that finally lets our community look toward the river and build with confidence in our historic core.
For decades, our city’s development pattern was shaped by necessity. We built to the south and the west and away from the river because we had to. We now can leverage the investments made from local, state and federal partners and embrace the possibilities and natural advantages the Red River gives us as an amenity.
