In a cross-border twist spanning three countries, a 65-year-old woman, suspected to be a Pakistani national and an escaped prisoner from Nepal, was arrested from the border town of Sabroom in South Tripura district.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nityananda Sarkar said the woman, who identified herself as Louis Nighat Akhtar Bhano, was detained by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Sabroom railway station and later handed over to the local police.

“It is suspected that she was trying to cross into Bangladesh. We are verifying her background and movements,” Sarkar said.

Police sources said Bhano, wife of Md. Golaf Faraj from Sheikhupura district in Pakistan, had entered Nepal about 12 years ago on a Pakistani passport. In 2014, she was arrested by Nepal Police with one kilogram
