Paedophile rock star Ian Watkins may have been attacked in prison because he refused to pay protection money, a source has claimed.

The disgraced singer, 48, was stabbed at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire on Saturday morning. He was found in his cell with serious injuries, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

He was serving a 29-year sentence for a string of sexual offences , including crimes against babies and young children.

Two other inmates, aged 25 and 43, were arrested after he was found at around 9am on Saturday.

A source told our sister title the Mirror : “There was no prior beef between them there was no prior knowledge between them. It looks like it was because he was who he was or would not pay any cash up.
