The Frederick County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday night appointed Back Creek Supervisor John Jewell to serve as interim board chairman, while Jason Aikens was named interim Gainesboro District supervisor.

The supervisors were tasked with selecting the temporary replacements following last month’s resignations of Heather Lockridge as the Gainesboro representative and Josh Ludwig as board chair.

Jewell and Aikens will serve until special elections are held on Nov. 3, 2026. The winners will serve the remainder of the Lockridge’s and Ludwig’s terms, both of which expire on Dec. 31, 2027.

Jewell’s appointment as interim chair is effective Oct. 15, as the board must now appoint an interim Back Creek supervisor, while Aikens’ appointment is effective immediately.
