Disgraced rock star Ian Watkins was killed in a fatal attack after refusing to pay protection money, it has been reported.

The paedophile former frontman of Welsh band Lostprophets died yesterday after being attacked at HMP Wakefield. He was serving a 29 year jail sentence for vile sexual offences.

Staff went to his aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mirror reports that Watkins may have been killed because he had refused to pay protection money.

A source told the paper: “There was no prior beef between them, there was no prior knowledge between them. It looks like it was because he was who he was or would not pay any cash up.
