BANGOR -- Sunday, October 12th, marks 88 years since the shootout that left two members of the infamous Brady Gang dead in the middle of Central Street in downtown Bangor.

According to the FBI , the Brady Gang committed around 150 holdups and robberies, and one to two murders in the Midwest between 1935 and 1936.

Those members included James Dalhover, Clarence Shaffer, and Al Brady.

In September of 1937, they journeyed to Dakin's Sporting Goods in Bangor's West Market Square and purchased firearms and ammunition. The owner alerted authorities, and the FBI says the scene was then set for their return.

On the morning of October 12, 1937, the three returned to the store. But, authorities were prepared.

Dalhover entered the store and was arrested inside. Shaffer, who was posted outside
