CARMEL, Ind. — After years of Carmel sending swimmers to meets around the world, the world came to Carmel this weekend.
The three-day World Cup brought more than 400 swimmers from 40+ countries to the town that bills itself “Swim City.”
Yet, even with Olympic champions and glitzy presentation, the marquee attraction was the pool itself — a $55 million natatorium that opened at Carmel High School less than 10 months ago.
“It’s kind of mind-blowing, actually,” said Hubert Kos, a Hungarian who won the 200-meter backstroke at the 2024 Paris Olympics. “When you think of high schools, you don’t think of a pool being that great. It really is a great facility, and it just shows how much people care about swimming here.”
