LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Norton Healthcare has become the first in Kentucky to unveil a new treatment for pancreatic cancer.

The treatment is called endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation, or EUS-RFA for short, and combines two technologies for the new procedure.

One part is a special probe that captures real-time high-resolution footage of organs inside the body, letting doctors pinpoint locations with extreme precision.

The other part is a device that uses electric currents to destroy cancerous tumors.

According to Norton, EUS-RFA is an alternative option to manage tumor growth and symptoms for cases where surgery is not an option, and in many instances is effective after a single treatment session.
