LAS VEGAS — Denny Hamlin will compete for his first NASCAR Cup Series title after locking himself into a championship spot with a win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Hamlin passed Chase Briscoe with under five laps to go after a late restart and held on for the win. He led only nine of the race's 267 laps but put himself in position for the win with Briscoe and others ahead on a two-tire strategy.

It's the 60th NASCAR Cup Series win for Hamlin, who is still seeking the first championship in his illustrious career.

"This win means a lot," Hamlin said with tears in his eyes. "I appreciate all of [the fans]. I put the pedal down those last 10 laps and made it happen."
