History has a knack for circling the block a time or two.
Such was the case Friday night, with Highland Tech spoiling Bessemer City High’s homecoming by taking a 15-12 victory.
Brandon Rice’s third-quarter touchdown pass to Jacori Ward proved to be the difference, upping the Rams’ lead to 15-0 at the time. Bessemer City worked its way back into the game with quarterback Gavin Chastain completing a touchdown pass to Jamarvion Gavin, along with rushing for a TD.
With the game on the line, it was Highland Tech’s defense which rose to the occasion, stopping a Bessemer City quarterback sneak short of the goal line, thus preserving the Rams’ victory.
The win snapped Highland Tech’s 13-game losing streak; the Rams’ previous win came in a 70-0 victory over Triangle Math & Science on Sept. 12,
