STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Daylight Saving Time ends a bit earlier than it has in recent years.

We’ll “fall back” to Standard Time on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 a.m., making the Daylight Saving Time period one day shorter than it was last year.

That’s because it always ends on the first Sunday in November, which falls just about as early in the month as possible this year.

However, the earliest possible end to Daylight Saving Time will occur in 2026, when the first Sunday in November falls on Nov. 1.

Once it occurs, we continue to approach the year’s shortest, darkest day, which will take place on Sunday, Dec. 21. This day is known as the winter solstice.

It happens when the Earth’s axial tilt is farthest from the sun, causing the sun to appear at its lowest point in the sky at noon.
