NEW YORK (PIX11) – Wind gusts up to 60 mph were projected to hit the tri-state area as a nor'easter made its way up the East Coast on Monday.

A wind advisory is in effect throughout New York and New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service. Officials warn that gusts can bring down trees and power lines, which could cause widespread outages.

Kings County • Brooklyn College: 42 mph

New York County • Midtown: 43 mph

Queens County • Kew Garden Hills: 46 mph • LaGuardia Airport: 46 mph • John F. Kennedy International Airport: 44 mph

Nassau County • Bayville: 52 mph • Wantagh: 40 mph
