President Arthur Peter Mutharika has issued Executive Order No. 01 of 2025, directing the relocation of selected government institutions to promote administrative balance and efficiency.

The order, dated October 10, 2025, takes immediate effect and mandates that the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC), and Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) move their headquarters from Lilongwe back to Blantyre.

Additionally, the Malawi Prison Service (MPS) has been ordered to relocate from Lilongwe to its former base in Zomba.

The relocation process is expected to begin immediately and must be completed within three months.

Mutharika has instructed the Chief Secretary to the Government to oversee and coordinate the entire transition.
