SAN ANTONIO — Pedestrian deaths are rising fast and TxDOT says October is the most dangerous month of the year. With fewer daylight hours and visibility dropping, the state is launching an urgent safety push right here in San Antonio starting Monday.
According to TxDOT data, in the San Antonio area last year there were 769 traffic crashes involving pedestrians, resulting in 83 pedestrian fatalities and 168 serious injuries.
With all this in mind, TxDOT is bringing its “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” pedestrian safety campaign to the Alamo City. The agency’s data also shows pedestrian-involved traffic crashes are still on the rise across Texas - up 25% from 2020 through 2024. TxDOT says October is the deadliest month for pedestrians in the state.
