Tucked away just off Cedar City's Main Street, Thunderbird Gardens features sculpted red stone, pinyon pines and miles of rugged trails. It is frequented by hikers, bikers and disc golf players, and these groups have seen some changes since an agreement to care for the area was dissolved.
Thunderbird Gardens, located at East 900 South, has been maintained by Cedar City, the Bureau of Land Management and Southern Utah University via agreements called memorandums of understanding. The main portion of the recreation area is owned by the city, while some trails pass through BLM land. St. George News reported previously that there have been issues with tree cutting, trash dumping and pallet burning in Thunderbird Gardens, prompting volunteer projects to maintain the site.
