When it comes to fitness, most people focus on the workouts, the reps and the intensity. What gets far less attention is something just as important: rest.

Recovery isn’t a sign of weakness or laziness; it’s an essential part of progress. Rest helps your body adapt, rebuild and come back stronger. Without it, even those with the most consistent workout routines can plateau.

I see it all the time with new clients. They push hard, day after day, thinking that more is always better. At first, they feel unstoppable, but after a few weeks, the fatigue sets in. Workouts feel harder, motivation dips and progress stalls. That’s their body signaling it needs time to recover. Ignoring these signs often leads to frustration, burnout or even injury, which can set progress back even further.
