CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The estate of a man who died while fleeing from Harrison County sheriff's deputies two years ago has filed a lawsuit against the Harrison County Commission, the former Sheriff Robert Matheny and two unnamed deputies.
According to the suit, in October 2023, deputies tried to pull Bryan Howard over after he did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign in Summit Park while riding a motorcycle. Howard then led deputies on a chase, which at times reached 115 miles per hour.
Howard eventually hit a parked camper and was flung off the motorcycle and into a telephone pole. He later died at the hospital.
The suit claims that the deputies were not properly trained and should have ended the pursuit when it became dangerous, violating law enforcement policies and state
