The Mumbai police Monday registered an FIR against at least 10 students of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) for allegedly commemorating the death anniversary (October 12) of former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba, and raising slogans in support of former JNU students Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid currently behind bars in the Delhi riots case.
The FIR was registered on a complaint from the TISS administration.
Confirming the development, a police officer said an offence was registered on charges of causing prejudice to the nation, causing enmity between various groups, unlawful assembly, among others.
The officer said the students were booked and issued notices accordingly. “No permission was taken from the Mumbai police for the event,” the officer said.
