YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - As victims of last week's shooting at a home on Youngstown's South Side recover, the dog found shot at that home continues being treated at a local animal shelter.

One-year-old Chappel underwent veterinary surgery to remove a bullet from near its spine Friday. She's being cared for by the staff at Animal Charity of Ohio. Humane agents say the dog is making progress for now, but things could change quickly.

"Right now, she's considered admitted into our clinic and is under the care of our doctor here because it's never straightforward with a bullet wound. It might have one entry, however, when it gets inside, it does a significant amount of damage," said Jane MacMurchy, with Animal Charity of Ohio.
