On November 16, 1930, Estelle and Arthur Bullard welcomed Shirley Jean into their lives. The second of five children. She was raised in love and, in turn, loved the five children she had after marrying Fred Lukomski in 1950. She dedicated her life to raising her family and providing a stable environment despite having to move multiple times, following her Navy husband around to new duty stations. She wound up on Coronado in 1963, and that is where Shirley spent the rest of her life. She was strong in her Christian faith and studied the Bible to the end. Talented in music, she played the oboe through high school and was offered a scholarship to college on that ability.
Shirley was heartbroken at the loss of her husband, Fred, in 1998. Tragedy again struck in 2015 when she lost her brother,
