ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Governor Kathy Hochul has vetoed a bill that would have required the State Fire Administrator to establish a specialized electric vehicle emergency response and recovery training program for first responders across New York.

In her veto message issued October 9, Hochul said Assembly Bill 247, while “laudable,” would impose costs not accounted for in the state’s current financial plan.

The measure would have mandated hands-on training for firefighters, police officers, emergency service agencies and tow operators, as well as annual reports on the program’s progress.
