CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Officers from the Carbondale Police Department said they discovered a handgun in a parked vehicle on October 12, in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue.

Albert Thomas Jr., 20, from Mt. Vernon, Illinois, was a suspect in this investigation. Police said he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by officers.

Carbondale police said Thomas was found with a second firearm at the time of his arrest and one of the guns was reported stolen from Missouri.

Thomas was cited by police with multiple offenses, including unlawful use of weapons, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of a stolen firearm, and resisting or obstructing police. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
