All lanes of northbound Interstate 75 on the Zilwaukee Bridge in Saginaw will open Tuesday after preventive maintenance work on the span was completed ahead of schedule, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced Monday.

The construction that began in April on the southbound lanes and in July on the northbound was part of a $2.9 million project to "improve and extend the service life of the structure," MDOT said in a press release.

Work took place along an approximately 5-mile stretch of the interstate, from Kochville Road to Wadsworth Road. Work on the bridge included expansion joint repair, deck patching and resealing.

Northbound traffic on I-75 had been detoured to Interstate 675 for the duration of the project, which started in July.
