JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Janesville teachers rallied Monday evening, calling for raises that would allow them to make a living wage.

One teacher says educators are struggling financially despite recently passed referendums. Rising health insurance costs and a 2.15% pay increase they call inadequate have left many feeling their paychecks aren't keeping up. Protesters say some teachers are working second and even third jobs.

The board voted to impose the 2025-26 contract offer on teachers and other certified staff without public discussion.

"We are holding a Fair Pay Now rally because the district and this board are sending the message to the community that teachers got a raise, and what we actually got was the credit that we worked extra hours for," said Laura Mattison, president of the Jane
