JANESVILLE, Wis. — Teachers in the Janesville School District rallied Monday to protest what they describe as an inadequate pay increase in their most recent contract.

In September, the Janesville School Board voted 7-0 to impose the district's contract offer on teachers and other staff after negotiations reached an impasse. The contract includes a base wage increase of 2.95%. Laura Mattison, president of the Janesville Education Association, said it's not a true raise.

"It's clear that we're not really keeping up with inflation and we're not getting enough support financially," Mattison said. "There's issue with the way the salary structure is created. There's also an issue with how they choose to define base wage."
