MOORHEAD — It was a time to remember and, more important, celebrate at Moorhead High School on Monday, Oct. 13, as the school hosted its annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day powwow.
The Buffalo Horse Singers filled the gymnasium with songs during the grand entry, continuing a tradition that has become a yearly celebration at the school.
“We just hopefully represent the best we can,” said Terry Goodsky of Mahnomen, Minn., who has been singing at powwows since he was 15.
After nearly 40 years, Goodsky said what keeps the tradition meaningful is seeing it carried on by younger generations.
“I love to see the kids, I love to see the young kids in their regalia, and just to be out there practicing their culture, singing and dancing,” Goodsky said.
