Potholes on city streets are a daily irritation for Santa Fe drivers, with one current City Council candidate jokingly describing them as the “city mascot.”

But potholes have caused problems for more than just cars, according to a recent tort claim submitted to the city of Santa Fe, which alleges a jet was significantly damaged during takeoff at the Santa Fe Regional Airport last year due to an unrepaired pothole on the runway.

Obtained recently by The New Mexican through an open records request, the tort claim submitted in August by attorneys representing Columbus, Ohio-based Capital City Jet Center are seeking significant financial compensation for damages to a 2006 Cessna Citation Jet CJ3.
