New Delhi: OpenAI is taking a big step into chipmaking with Broadcom. The two California-based companies have announced a multi-year collaboration to co-develop and deploy 10 gigawatts worth of custom AI accelerators that will form the backbone of OpenAI’s future computing infrastructure.

According to OpenAI, this collaboration will allow it to design its own chips and systems while Broadcom provides Ethernet, PCIe, and optical connectivity technologies for large-scale data centre deployment. The rollout of these systems will begin in the second half of 2026 and is expected to conclude by the end of 2029.
