The Victorian Opposition has announced its alternative to the Allan government's Indigenous Treaty, which it has vowed to scrap within 100 days of taking office.

Opposition Leader Brad Battin and shadow Aboriginal affairs minister Melina Bath announced that a future Liberal and Nationals government will create a standalone statutory body named First Nations Victoria, which will be dedicated to improving the lives of Indigenous Victorians.

The Allan government is believed to already have the numbers to pass its legislation to establish a Treaty between the Victorian government and the state’s Indigenous population, which the Victorian Parliament is set to debate on Tuesday.

If passed by Parliament, legislation would see the creation of a permanent First Peoples’ Assembly - named Gellun
