Insiders have claimed that former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins was "scruffy" and "lazy" before his death in Wakefield prison.

Details of his appearance were unveiled in a book published last year, Inside Wakefield Prison: Life Behind Bars in the Monster Mansion. Authors Jonathan Levi and Emma French interviewed various individuals about Watkins, who was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offences, including the attempted rape of an infant.

Among their sources was Martin Baker, who joined HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire in 1999. The ex-senior prison officer described Watkins' appearance within the prison walls.
