The New Jersey Department of Transportation has successfully completed a restriping of the Route 46 bridge in Knowlton Township, leading up to plans to replace the bridge entirely.

Reconstruction of the bridgeway is expected to be completed by spring 2028. Work began a few weeks ago to prepare the median for the construction.

Work will be conducted in stages with one side of the bridge being constructed at a time, while maintaining one lane of traffic in both directions throughout construction.

The westbound lanes will be demolished and reconstructed first and then the focus on the configuration will shift to reconstructing the eastbound lanes, noted Steve Schapiro, an official for NJDOT.
